“Directly engages with Indigenous rights and some of the more urgent environmental issues of the moment“
The girl Kéria saves a motherless orangutan together with her father. Kéria has also lost her mother, a member of the indigenous Penan people. Meanwhile, Kéria's young cousin Selaï (also a Penan) is staying with her to escape the conflict between his family and the logging companies destroying their habitat. Kéria experiences perilous adventures in the jungle of Borneo together with Selaï and the orangutan. Not only do they have to take on the mega company that is clearing the rainforest, but Kéria - daughter of a French father and an indigenous mother - will also learn more about her own history during these adventures.
In 2016, Claude Barras released the beautiful and award-winning Ma Vie de Courgette and then worked on this stop-motion animation film for no less than eight years (in the Netherlands mainly shown in the Dutch version: Red de Jungle). The RKZbios is showing the original French version with English subtitles.
